Job Description:

The Senior Engineer Advanced Process Modelling will lead and/or execute the development and validation of complex process and chemistry models according to the R&T model development processes and sound established engineering principles to satisfy project and business requirements. To support and/or lead the development of process flowsheets through application of knowledge of process modelling and unit operations. To provide technical expertise and support to users of the models and/or execute case studies with the models in support of projects. Manage, support and guide R&T project teams, providing technical direction to other engineers, scientists and research operations staff. Interface directly with Sasol Operating Model Entitie’s (OME’s) to effectively scope, plan, execute and implement research projects/studies. Interface with 3rd party technology/software vendors in this field, to be able to assess the suitability of modelling platforms for use in Sasol, and keep abreast of developments in this field.

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan, organise and execute R&T projects in accordance to the relevant governance process
• Manage and guide R&T project teams, providing technical direction to other engineers, scientists and research operations staff.
• Aligning with stakeholders the scope and execution approach for R&T projects,
• Multi layered interactions and networks with licensors, vendors and SBU’s regularly.
• Formulate and execute (manage and do) the process engineering scope for R&T and modelling projects
• Deliver on functional contributions within the Engineering Research team
• Ensure adherence to risk management policies and practices
• Provide input concerning best practices, lessons learnt and training of younger engineers
• Development R&T technology packages and key engineering deliverables within this technology area
• Assess the feasibility of 3rd party software applications for use in Sasol
• Identify key technical risks in process design, and propose solutions to mitigate or eliminate these technology risks
• Coach and guide less experienced engineers and scientists.
• Ensure all critical documents are reviewed and signed off by sponsor/SME/SM as identified within the project charter.
• Execution and delivery of own technical studies through application of specialist knowledge, competence and fundamental
• understanding of process modelling and numerical methods
• Ability to provide support to operating plants by hands-on problem solving, technical analysis and monitoring, especially via application of process models.

• Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, and to work with, or through others inside and/or outside (ECs/licensors/etc.) the organisation to achieve project goals.
• Excellent project co-ordination/leadership skills.

Qualification & Experience:

• University Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
• BEng/BSc (Hons) & 10 yrs, MEng/MSc & 9 yrs, PhD & 8 yrs, (Masters or PhD preferred)
• 10+ relevant years
