Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the manager in the coordination of activities of the hospital pharmacy and therapeutic committee (PTC), or in any other committee that is of benefit in improving and managing pharmaceutical services. Perform ward checks, clinical ward rounds, overtime and standby duty.
  • Participate in-service training. Perform any legitimate tasks requested that is necessary for the provision of a quality Pharmaceutical service. Perform after hours and on-call duties.
  • Participation in the implementation of the National and Provincial Programme to ensure compliance with the standards. Perform all other duties delegated by the supervisor or manager within the scope of practice.
  • Provide Pharmaceutical care, including prescriptions evaluation, dispensing of medication and provision of information to ensure patient compliance and therapeutic success.
  • Supervising of Pharmacist, Pharmacist interns, Pharmacist Assistants and any other personnel in the unit. Management and training of staff including the completion of Performance appraisals.
  • Manage and supervise workflow in an area within the Pharmacy department.
  • Prepare and submit relevant reports to various departments. Supply relevant information to medical , nursing and patients.
  • Monitor and evaluate quality of service.
    Register as a Tutor to train Pharmacists interns and/or Pharmacist Assistant. Assist manager in budget planning, demand planning and duty allocation.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or Diploma in Pharmacy recognized by South African Pharmacy Council.
  • Human Resource Management and staff relations legislation.
  • Appropriate clinical and theoretical knowledge.
  • Team builder and computer literate. Sound knowledge of legislations applicable to pharmacy practice.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Previous experience in management/supervisory position can be added advantage.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist.
  • A Minimum of Three (3) years appropriate experience after registration as a Pharmacist with South African Pharmacy Council.
