Job Description:
We have an exciting position foraSection Engineering Manager – Shutdowns.The incumbent will be responsible for identifying and leading improvements across all major work (shutdown) activities amongst execution teams, to ensure delivery of safe, responsible, on-time and technically sound shutdown work. The role also must pursue opportunities to deliver beyond set key performance indicators (KPI’s) meeting breakthrough performance (P101). The role includes management of shutdown scheduling and planning activities for the operation, as well as to ensure safe execution of all shutdown work in accordance with all safety and legislative requirements. The role is also responsible to ensure that all operational shutdown work activities are concluded within time, budget and to the Anglo American and industry standards.

- Ensure effective planning is conducted in accordance with the integrated planning and operating model (IPOM).
- Manage and lead all health, safety and environmental efforts – maintaining a visible presence.
- Ensure adequate risk identification, mitigation and controls are in place for all shutdown activities – ensuring that all critical controls are in place.
- Provide inputs into annual budget cycles.
- Ensure effective shutdown scheduling in accordance with the Mine’s master operating schedule (MOS) is in place.
- Ensure effective performance of all direct reports, i.e. Supervisors, Artisans and Contractors.
- Consistently ensure the application of all safety, health and environmental principals during planning and execution of all shutdown related activities.
- Ensure all personnel engaging in shutdown activities are trained and competent to do so.
- Ensure effective work management during shutdown execution in accordance with the operating model (OM).
- Manage and lead team performance to attain set business objectives and targets.
Job Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical / electrical engineering in Mining industry
- At least 5 years HME experience in an opencast mining environment.
- Experience working with ERP / SAP will be advantageous
- Engineering Diploma / Degree (NQF Level 6) in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines & Works
- Experience in maintenance of OC machinery and/or processing plants
